This is a small update on my previous posts about Ubuntu 11.10. After the release, many updates have followed quickly, and now it seems to be stable in most apects. I can run Nautilus again without random crashes, and some functionality which I missed at the beginning, such as dragging a window to the side to resize it to half the screen width, are working know. However, Synaptic still refuses to show the installed files for some packages; nevertheless the files exist, so this should only be an aesthetic problem.

I can know advice you to update/change to Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot with a clear conscience.

Here we go. Ubuntu 11.10 isn’t really stable so far.

The imho worst bug I experienced are random crashes of nautilus. This seems to be caused by the open-terminal addon.  Since my workflow heavily relies on this functionality, removing it is not an option; therefore, nautilus is currently de facto unusable for me. I am now using Thunar as file browser.

There seems to be a severe bug in synaptic, aswell: when I open the ‘installed data’ tab of the properties window of an installed package, synaptic writes that this information could only be shown if the package was installed.

Hopefully, Canonical will provide bugfixes soon!

I upgraded my desktop to 11.10 last night, but I didn’t have time to test it today. Well, I’ll post my opinion as soon as I’ve taken a look  on it …

Okay, this is my first post. WordPress is up and running, although I still have to cofigure some stuff.
